International and domestic air services operated by Fiji’s local airlines recorded strong passenger demand in 2025, according to the latest Aircraft Statistics released by the Fiji Bureau of Statistics (Fiji Bureau of Statistics, the national statistical agency responsible for official data collection and reporting). International flights utilized 76.3 percent of the total seat kilometres available, reaching 11.2 billion seat kilometres during the year. This represents a 0.4 percentage point increase compared to 2024, indicating steady growth in passenger demand for international travel. Passenger movement also increased significantly, with international airlines recording 1.96 million passengers in 2025, up from 1.70 million in 2024. Cargo and freight movement also improved, with international flights utilizing 55.6 percent of total tonne kilometres available, equivalent to 1.98 billion tonne kilometres, marking a 4.4 percentage point increase compared to the previous year. Domestic airline services also recorded positive performance, with domestic passenger flights utilizing 71.8 percent.
Police are investigating the death of a man following a work-related incident in Labasa. The man is believed to have fallen onto a wood-sawing blade while at work. The incident occurred last week. He had been admitted to hospital since then. He died yesterday. Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the victim’s death.
Police and civilians will resume the search today for the body of a tourist following a reported drowning incident at Mount Mutiny Reef in the Vatu-i-Ra Passage yesterday. The incident is believed to have occurred early yesterday morning. The tourist had travelled to the reef for a diving trip aboard a local cruise vessel. The victim is believed to be a woman in her sixties from the United States. Search efforts continued throughout yesterday as authorities worked to locate the body.
