TheWkly Analysis
The South African Police Service (SAPS) reported that Gauteng recorded the highest number of contact crimes in the country during the third quarter of 2025, from 1st October to 31st December. Gauteng contributes 25.5% of contact crimes, followed by Western Cape at 18%, KwaZulu-Natal at 17.5%, and Eastern Cape at 11%. SAPS Crime Registrar Major-General Thulare Sekhukhune stated that a general decrease in contact crimes was recorded across all three months of the quarter. Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia noted that the murder rate decreased by 8.7% compared to the same quarter in 2024.
