Etche LGA Chairman Chima Njoku Restores Electricity to Over 40 Communities After 10-Year Blackout
TheWkly Analysis
Etche Local Government Council Chairman in Rivers State, Mr Chima Njoku, has lit up over 40 communities that have been in blackout for about 10 years. During his campaign, Mr Njoku promised the people of Etche, especially the over 100 communities within three clans (Okehi, Mba and Ozuzu) and other parts of the LGA, that he would restore electricity. The LGA falls within the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC, a power distribution company) jurisdiction, which has allegedly failed the area. The Chairman resorted to restoring electricity from Aba Power, Nigeria’s newest power distribution company (DisCo) based in Aba, Abia State. Many communities in the area are now celebrating the resurgence of a lively Etche with the new power supply. Edise Ekong is the Aba Power Senior Brand and Communication officer.
- Over 40 Etche communities gain electricity after 10 years, enabling residents to use lights, fans, and appliances at night.
- More than 100 communities in Okehi, Mba, and Ozuzu clans see economic activity rise with safer, illuminated streets and homes.
- Etche residents celebrate a lively local environment, reducing isolation and improving daily safety and productivity.
